This project aims to understand food and the various challenges towards safe food in the context of a country with a huge population & economic disparity and to communicate it in the form of a graphic novel
Tales from a dinner plate narrates stories centered around a dinner table as the nature of food and conversations change, over time.
Process:
Ideas, behaviours, knowledge, practices and attitudes towards food were studied through a process of extended conversations with diverse people and secondary data collection.
I realised during my study that food was more about memories, relationships, stories rather than facts or figures about what is wrong with the system. To communicate these ideas, I experimented with photography, filmmaking and finally decided on a graphic novel format.
explorations : photography, interviews, short films
BOOK 2
A very fishy tale of our times
OBJECTIVE :
A graphic novel that reflects the contemporary world, presented as conversations between a young child, Mia and her grandmother, on their day out. The project was inspired by Apolitical Intellectuals by Otto Rene Castillo and an essay by Adam Greenfield (urbanist) that discussed the apolitical nature of contemporary design culture.
